At the end of this course supervisors and managers will be able to understand the principles of interviewing employees, both as witnesses and within the disciplinary process, being able to conduct interviews which gather maximum information and withstand scrutiny.


By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Plan and conduct witness interviews
  • Create witness statements, applying principles of good practice
  • Plan and prepare for employee interviews
  • Understand the PEACE framework
  • Understand the concepts of standard of proof. Points to prove, defences and mitigation
  • Handle different types of accounts from interviewees
  • Complete interview written summaries


This course will help managers who are required to undertake workplace interviews with employees, either as witnesses or those under investigation. It will give the skills required to be able to conduct interviews with competence, confidence, whilst helping to withstand scrutiny and assist decision makers to make the most appropriate decisions, based upon facts.
